Business energy comparison case study - Meimo Restaurant, Windsor
About Meimo Restaurant
Meimo Restaurant Windsor is a contemporary, independent, family run restaurant in the heart of Windsor, run by owners Abdul and Amina, serving the finest Mediterranean and Moroccan food.
Set a mere stone’s throw from the historic Windsor Castle, its location is as impressive as the quality of cuisine, exceptional service and welcoming atmosphere the owners take such pride in.
Business energy suppliers - overview
Catering for large numbers of local customers as well as visitors to Windsor seven days a week, takes a lot of time, dedication and energy – which in turn means significant costs in running the business and maintaining high standards their customers have come to expect.
Meimo’s previous energy supplier had gone into administration, so they were moved to a new supplier by default and placed on a rolling, premium tariff contract.
Business energy comparison - objectives
ECR were brought in when Meimo, faced with an open market, needed impartial guidance on making the right choice for their business energy needs.
With energy market forecasts showing continuing volatility, Meimo were looking for some stability to be able to fix their business energy costs and so manage their budget better and forecast their energy costs for the years ahead.
With this in mind, we set about our task to search live information across multiple energy suppliers to find the right options for Meimo in terms of rates, supplier and length of contract. Our objective was to present them with appropriate fixed term options to choose from, to offset market uncertainty, bring back stability and retain control over energy spend.
Switching energy supplier - some questions
Which supplier? How long for? At what rates? These were just some of the questions we had to consider when recommending a solution for Meimo.
The length of the business energy contract would depend on Meimo’s risk strategy and individual needs.
Would a short-term energy contract be better if there was a chance the energy market might stabilise and rates might fall, or would it better to be risk averse and fix rates for a longer period?
Protection from any future energy price increases
With a hostile energy market and no guarantee as to how the next few years would pan out, we were able to act at the right time before further predicted rate increases took effect, and presented both short and longer term options, from which Meimo could choose which option would be right for them.
Fixed rate energy option - the solution
Meimo decided to minimise risk by choosing a suitable fixed rate energy option for three years, which was right for their business and ensured they benefitted from fixed lower energy rates for a longer period of time. With their energy rates now protected from any future price increases for the contract duration, this also provided the added benefit and security they were looking for in being able to more accurately manage and forecast utilities costs in a continuing unstable market.
One-stop service for business energy support
“We work with businesses UK wide and would like to think we deliver to the best of our capabilities for each of our customer’s individual needs, and with Meimo being a local business to us, the pressure was on even more so – otherwise an enforced office relocation might have been on the cards!
“Thankfully we achieved our objectives and in doing so have helped Meimo achieve theirs, and we have also been there for Meimo to ensure a smooth transition as well as providing a one stop service for any ongoing support requirements, so all is good!”
Energy Contract Renewals
A quote from the customer:
“I asked ECR to investigate fixed cost business utility options and the proposal they came up with was tailored specifically for my business. It’s a complicated market but I was really happy that what they proposed was just right for Meimo. The support service is also excellent – if ever I have any issues or questions, I know I can contact them at any time, get straight through and help will be at hand.”
